The purpose of the meeting was to explain the circumstances of the news that the community centre was to close on the 31st March. I found the meeting to be a sad and depressing experience. The councilors were very angry that this news was announced out of the blue with no consultation let alone any information that it was about to happen.

They went to some lengths to vent their anger that at no time were they consulted or made privy to what was happening.

A four week extension could be considered but that would eat into the time margin needed. The audience who were present made their feelings known that it seemed yet another case of the population of New Cumnock being ignored and sidelined. The community council would lose their base and storage facility. The only toilets available to the public will disappear. The Town Hall may not be completed on schedule and extend the time in loss of facilities.

Another meeting of the community council will be held in two weeks to come to a decision on the choices available. One of the choices being holding meetings at Dumfries House with transport made available. Completion date for the town hall is October Most people in New Cumnock will be aware that the site of the Arthur Memorial Church now has houses being very quickly built.

I began to take photos of the houses on Friday 12 February but the site was so busy I had to return on Sunday in the interests of my health and safety. News broke this week that New Cumnock Community Centre is to close. It had been understood by most residents that the community centre would stay open until the Town Hall had been refurbished but now it will close in March. The swimming pool committee which was formed in are pleased that the swimming pool will be able to continue through the summer season and beyond. A motorcyclist was seriously injured just outside New Cumnock on the Kirkconnel Road when he crashed into a tree. He was taken to Ayr Hospital where his injuries were found to be serious but but not life threatening. The road was closed for a number of hours.

Last Friday night 10th July one of the recently built lodges at Lochside Hotel suffered a serious fire that virtually destroyed the building. While this was happening a wedding was taking place in the hotel just a few metres away. The lodges have four bedrooms and accommodate up to twelve people. Fire crews from New Cumnock and Cumnock attended the blaze. The firefighters were at the scene until Saturday to ensure that the fire did not flare up again.
